THE Muslim Brotherhood called for an uprising in Egypt yesterday, accusing the army of firing on a peaceful sit-in when 51 people were shot dead at morning prayers.

Five children were among the dead and 435 people were hurt during protests in Cairo against the removal of president Mohammed Morsi.
“They opened fire with live ammunition and lobbed tear gas,” said Al-Shaimaa Younes, who was at the sit-in.
“There was panic and people started running. I saw people fall.”
The army claimed a “terrorist group” tried to storm the barracks, killing an officer and two policemen.
Interim president Adly Mansour appealed for calm and ordered an inquiry into the violence.
Egypt’s top Muslim cleric warned of “civil war”.
